George's personal copy of the Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana (1952 or thereafter; actual size approx. 5.4 x 8.2 in. (13.6 x 20.8 cm.)). As far as I can determine, my father did not have a copy of the Holy Bible in his library. However, he did have this: a personalized copy of the Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana —sometimes subtitled The Hindu Art of Love (10th ed., translated and edited by Dr. B. N. Basu; Calcutta, India: Medical Book Company, February 1952). The scan was made directly from this copy, which I now own. While I'm not positive about this, I'll wager that my father maintained some interest in, and respect for, the Eastern religious traditions. I'll bet too that he estimated the worth of a religion as to whether it embraces human sexuality as something to be celebrated and elevated to a high art—or desecrates sex as something to be feared and loathed!
