"'Times' Photographer Crashed Hitler Haven" ~ Los Angeles Times article (July 30, 1944; actual size approx. 6.2 x 12.0 in. (15.8 x 30.5 cm.)). Whatever the merits or demerits of the article generally, I believe the caption of the photo above contains two errors: first, with regard to the spelling of Hoffmann's surname; second, I strongly believe the man standing behind Hitler's right shoulder is not Heinrich Hoffmann. Hoffmann was shorter, stockier, considerably older, and had a fuller head of hair (compare to this photo of Hoffmann, taken by my father; and this photo from Wikipedia, which shows Hoffmann standing in the front row at far right of photo). Nevertheless, the man shown above is also depicted in several other photos in this suite, and in some of them he's carrying camera equipment. To me this suggests that there were three photographers on the grounds of Hitler's summer estate on this occasion; it's also possible that the younger man was an assistant of Hoffmann's.
