Bobbing for apples (probably October 1959; actual size approx. 9.5 x 7.5 in. (24.0 x 18.9 cm.)). Lillian Kobmand (pictured at right) is the daughter of Carl and Lili Kobmand, a lovely couple who lived just across the street from us. Carl and Lili were first-generation immigrants: he from Denmark, she from Germany. Carl worked at a Knudsen dairy plant nearby, which I understand hired many Danish immigrants at the time. Lillian was the youngest of four children, and approximately Geoffrey's age. Her siblings were young adults or in their late teens: Claus, Ernie, and Vera. All were notably darker than the fair-haired, light-skinned Lillian. I can recall having a severe crush on Vera, though she was probably seven or eight years my senior. We were also fortunate to have befriended another German family in the area: Jakob and Heidi Schumacher, and their two young sons, Horst and Helmut. Lightly retouched to remove a few white spots on and near Suzy's head.
