Suzy poses with family friend Benjamin Simon ("Uncle" Ben) (December 1957; actual size approx. 7.6 x 9.5 in. (19.4 x 24.2 cm.)). This photo was key to the timing of perhaps a dozen other photos in this set. Why? Because of the issue of Life Magazine on the right armrest, with a cover photo of Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, issued December 2, 1957. Ben Simon was dear to our family, so much so that we called him "Uncle Ben." In turn, Suzy was especially dear to him, perhaps representing the daughter he never had. He and wife Marie had two grown sons, Robert and Leon. Robert was a fairly skilled pianist, and whenever we visited the Simon family in their home, we kids would clamor to hear Robert play the Rondo alla turca from Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 11 in A Major, K. 331—it never got old. (Eventually Robert married a woman named Ronette, who got my hormones racing even though I was a child, for she was so beautiful...) Lightly retouched to repair minor delamination damage and white spotting.
